What is "Performance With A Purpose?" CDE creates change in the world through art, "One Voice, One Story, One Person At a Time." This is what we call "Performance With a Purpose."
Whether it is on stage or in the classroom, changing lives happens on many levels. With so many things happening around the globe and to our planet, we question if what we do in the world really matters. I am here to say yes, it does and it matter right here at home. Our impact might not have a global reach but supporting organizations like Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble creates the change in the neighborhoods we live and work in. For instance, last season CDE gave away 281 tickets to youth and community members affected by gun and gang violence and through post show discussions, people shared their stories. In the classroom, students are connecting reading with dance and theatre, improving their literacy and comprehension skills. The smiles on the faces of every child we work with creates a positive change in the world. Through our art, we break down the cycles that destroy our communities. This season continues CDE 15 year history of cutting edge social political theatre. "Bindis and Bruises" weaves together the stories from survivors of domestic and dating violence, through dance and theatre, to uncover inner strength and hope with a unified voice. March 4-19, 2016 Renewing our commitment to veterans stories, "Piece Of My Heart" follows 6 Women's journeys before, during, and after the Vietnam War. This is a true life experience with Doctor Odunga who helped me save my marriage from jeopardy. My name is Kimberly Fillmore and I am from US A. I and my husband have been married for over 6 years.
