Outreach Programming
Our Philosophy
We believe arts education is essential to a child’s holistic development as an individual. The arts has had a long documented success in improving students’ confidence, critical thinking, creativity, and overall success in school. For our world to become a better place, we feel young people need a positive, creative way to express themselves. Our goal is to foster the artistic voices of children and teens though multidisciplinary arts education.
Kids Project Our Kids Project programs are designed for pre-K through 8th grade students. These programs can be offered during school or after school and can be customized for your students’ needs and interest. We can also merge to support an existing after school program. Some of our most successful programs have been: Books Alive! teaches literacy and reading comprehension through the arts. Students will read a book or short story together and then be asked to engage with the text through art, theater, and dance. Students might paint pictures of a scene in the book, create an epilogue to the story and perform it in a skit, or analyze the characters’ feelings and emotions through dance. Students in K-3rd learn how to spell while dancing with our "Spelling Dance Warm-up" and 4th-5th become Superheroes, Poets and Science Stars! Read more about how to bring BOOKS ALIVE to your school or community center The Cooking Show offers a creative way to talk with students about healthy eating habits, nutrition, and how to make some healthy recipes themselves. During the program session, students learn to make recipes, to write food reviews, and review units of measurement. Kitchen safety and hygiene are also discussed. At the end of the program, the students create a filmed TV show that includes a host, judges, student cooking teams, and a studio audience. Find out how The Cooking Show can happen with your kids at your school or community center Measurements in Movement uses mathematical concepts to create and choreograph a modern dance piece. Students connect concepts like fractions, symmetry, geometric lines and shapes, and number lines to movement, body and spatial awareness (i.e. “make a diagonal line with your arms and legs – now cut yourself in half, so you take up half as much space”) , and rhythm. Teen Artist Project Our Teen Artist Project (TAP) programs are designed to teach high school students expression through the performing arts. We ask these students to draw on their own experiences, thoughts, and ideas to create a multidisciplinary performance piece and the end of the session. These classes can be held in school, after school, or integrated with existing after school programs. |
