Kids Project -a multidisciplinary arts after-school program Who are we? Kids Project is the outreach program of the Adler Danztheatre Project that creates an awareness of arts and literacy through experiences in many artistic disciplines, including painting, photography, acting, and dance. The Kids Project strives to help build a foundation for artistic appreciation and greater self-esteem. Kids Project complements the childrenís academic studies by adapting age-appropriate books for the stage, building a foundation for artistic appreciation and self-esteem. The Kids Project curriculum meets the Illinois Board of Education performing arts standers. We offer low-cost classes and performance workshops to children of all ages, pre-K through high school. We strive for a multiethnic group that draws from both public and private schools. Philosophy Kids Project seeks to teach young students performing and visual art skills by using childrenís literature as a vehicle. We incorporate acting, dance, art and music as a way to engage children, and assign roles that build of each childís personalities and inherent talents. By giving our students achievable goals, they become more self-confident and we are able to build on those simple goals by making them more complex. Our "Whole-Child" teaching philosophy enables us to help the students learn better ways to communicate. By processing emotions and their physical responses, our students gain an understanding of body awareness and become more intuitive to othersí needs. To promote self-reliance, we ask, "Why did the character do that?" or "What would you do if you were a bird?" so that they begin to think for themselves. The "Whole-Child" teaching philosophy allows us to create a flexible curriculum to meet the needs of our students.
Workshops and Classes Parents, students and instructors may also plan contracted classes. These classes can be geared towards teaching only the arts or they can incorporate science, math and other subjects that the contractor requests. Contact us about programs at your school, community center, or kids group. Fees vary based on program. Staff and Teaching Artist Ellyzabeth Adler (BFA and MA), brings years of teaching experience to her supervision of the Kids Project program. Adler Danztheatre Projectís, Kids Project contracts multi-disciplinary artists from the community who have higher education degrees. One of the benefits of having practicing artists teach in the classroom is that students see the real-world application of artistic talent first-hand when they witness a guest artistís work in performance and visual art. |
